I wonder what happens if I touch this squiggly bit here....
Yesterday, I messed up the telephone lines at work. I’m the exploited receptionist, secretary, and general office problem solver and whatever. I was bored, and wondered what happens if I call myself and transfer myself? Also it will seem like I’m quite busy on the phone and I’ve discovered that if you are talking on the phone (or look like you are), you avoid people giving you grief as they are like oh she looks busy, I will ask later and never come back. HA!
Well, I discovered what happens if you call yourself and transfer yourself is that you take up two lines and get stuck on an eternal loop as each line puts you on hold. And I did it twice so all four lines were blocked so no one could call in or out. I was like shit! I disconnected the phone, nothing, at the phone line, nothing. It had to be a rebooting of the whole entire system, and I didn’t know how to do it and sneakily solve the problem.
Over the years, I’ve managed to learn how to sort things out, if you are screwing up all the time, you figure out how to cover your tracks... sometimes. A useful skill but not one you can really explain on your resumé.
Anyway, I innocently enquired if anyone was having problems with the phones cause try as I might, I couldn’t get an outside line. Do you think we should call the technicians?
So it got solved and the technicians were asked what happened. These things are a mystery, they said. Ha! Makes you wonder how many mysterious system crashes is just some random human going oh shit, why did I do that! And no one ever finds out. Pompeii was probably someone saying hmm, I wonder what happens if I move this rock.
