ADD ADHD is great!


I was reading this blog about whether 'positive' ADHDers (ADD is great!) ignore the problems of those with ADD.

Yes, ADDErs have lots of strengths like
Creative
Spontaneous
Fun guy to be around
Great brain-stormer
Great multitasker
Great sense of humour
Great with kids (central figure around kids)
Hyper focus !!
Move on fast – never hold a grudge
Thinks 2 meters ahead of the world

Being good with kids probably because we are emotionally behind most people in our peer group, and kids don't often judge. They want to know if you are fun or not and that's about it.

Hyperfocus is not good if you are spending 3 hours classifying your music. Just as I can't stop the distraction, I can't stop the hyperfocus. It can be a big waste of time, and causes problems.

I rarely hold grudges because I'm generally distracted and forget what the whole thing was about it, which can be good but bad sometimes cause I forget about bad things people do sometimes. There are legitimate reasons to hold a grudge like if someone keeps doing the same thing all the time, sometimes they bring you down and you have to separate yourself from them.
Being impulsive and spontaneous is all good. Not if you are impulsive and find yourself in Bahamas having blown your money for that semester and waste lots and lots of money on impulsive spending.

They are all good things to have if they are not too severe, and of course the key is to control them. But if we were able to, we wouldn't be in this situation now would we? Too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing.

Like Tara said, it's insulting.
The subtext is that if ADD is so great and yet you are not doing anything with this wonderful thing, there must be something wrong with you, dumbass. Well yes...

It's good for kids to hear this but as adults we need something other than ADD is great, look at the wonderful things. It's not very helpful. Then there are those who are very into natural health and medication is the Great Satan!
